We live in a world in which, more often than not, the ‘busy-ness’ of day-to-day life means that there’s something to ‘fit in’ or ‘do’ at all times. But what really matters in life, and how can we be sure we prioritize the right things?
Whether it’s spending quality time with family, or reprioritizing our career in means to get a better job- it’s so important to remember that it’s okay if you need a day off from checking boxes. It’s about doing what we need to do – including taking those moments to relax and recharge in order to tackle the tougher stuff further down the line.
The key is to focus on the moments that matter and make every moment count. It might be taking a few minutes out of a busy routine to stop and appreciate the sunset, or taking a day off to connect with nature. Whatever it is, we have to remember that there’s more to life than ticking over through our daily tasks.
We’re all guilty of rushing too quickly towards the end goal. However, it’s important to slow down and look at the bigger picture. Falling in love with the whole process, not specifically functioning at full speed, all of the time. That means reflecting on our lives and taking the time to ask, ‘what’s really important to me?’ and ‘what am I missing out on?’. Once we have the answers to these questions, it’s about making the necessary changes and actioning them.
I’m part of an emotional intelligence book club, and the first 2 minutes of a book that we’re reading (Seven Levels Of Intimacy) caused me to feel like this book is going to be a personal one! It talks about a husband who is always ‘on’ with his work, then suddenly makes the choice to engage and put his work aside. It’s tough when you love what you do, and there’s always things that need to be done but being mindful of that balance that keeps us sane is equally as important. Eating with a phone in your hand, or going to bed while on your phone to answer emails on a regular basis can really add up. Some may ask ‘who does this?’, well, sometimes there’s just not enough time in a day.. but prioritizing and scheduling will help! Spending quality time (over quantity) for the tasks that need attention.
In short, it’s about putting the importance of those special moments first and foremost in our lives, and watching them become the highlight reel of our life. In person, with what’s in front of us, not just on Instagram. Although when it comes to business, I understand the importance and power of social media.
No matter how hectic our schedule is, it’s essential to take a step back, take a breath and focus on what matters most & making sure we focus on what matters in life is something we all need to remind ourselves of. It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle, the gossip, the exciting things that are going on within our friendship circle, and the next major career breakthrough.. but we have to make time to focus on the moments that matter. Prioritizing, throwing out what is added noise, and focusing on the things that truly matter. Take a few deep breaths and make every moment count. You won’t regret it.
