As we all know, maintaining a healthy weight is an important part of enjoying a full, happy, and productive life. But the journey to getting to that goal can be difficult and can require a lot of mental and physical strength and endurance. So, how can you stay motivated and focused on your weight loss journey? Here are some key tips for finding the strength and endurance necessary for successful weight loss.
First, it’s important to set realistic, achievable goals. Losing weight and leading a healthier lifestyle can often be an continual process and if you set yourself up to fail from the start, you’re likely to give up. So, be sure to set reasonable goals that are tailored to your individual needs, and keep your long-term objectives in mind whenever you feel like giving up.
Second, start small and make mindful changes that over time add up to huge results. These could be small changes like taking the stairs instead of the elevator or opting for grilled or roasted chicken instead of fried. You don’t have to make drastic changes to your lifestyle to be successful in your weight loss journey.
Third, create a support network with friends, family, or even an online group. Having emotional support to help you stay focused and motivated is extremely valuable, especially when times get tough. Additionally, you can use this network to share successes and discuss challenges you are facing throughout your journey. I have a small group called Winner’s Circle, and although we are only into our first month, it has been showing benefits to having a community of others working towards similar goals. The same with joining a boutique gym- The smaller community style gyms are more likely to keep you accountable and to be there for you when you need it the most.
Finally, it’s absolutely critical to stay positive throughout your journey. Too often, we allow negativity and self-doubt to take hold of our mind, leading us to defeat. I’m not talking about ‘artificial or toxic positivity’. I mean, genuine positive feelings. It is okay to feel proud of yourself, which a lot of us tend to shy away from incase people think specific ways about us- but frankly, there’s a difference between cocky and confident. You can be confident and positive by making sure to celebrate every small victory and celebrate your successes, no matter how small. It all adds up to the bigger picture. The more you hit your goals AND celebrate, the more likely you are to continue. We naturally chase the ‘feel good vibe’.
Weight loss is never easy and requires dedication and consistency. But if you remember to stay positive, set realistic goals, make small, mindful changes, and create a support network, you’ll find that you have the strength and endurance necessary to keep going and stay motivated on your weight loss journey.
